Biography
Doug Elniski was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Calder on March 3, 2008. He currently serves as Chair of the Cabinet Policy Committee on Energy and Deputy Chair of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Committee. He is also a member of the Private Members Business Committee, the Special Standing Committee on Members Services, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. Mr. Elniski also served as member on the MLA Advisory Committee on the Distribution of Casino Proceeds to Licensed Charities.
Prior to serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Mr. Elniski worked in a variety of fields, including safety, forestry, adult education and consulting. Mr. Elniski is a member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers and holds both a National Construction Safety Officer certificate and a human resources certificate. Mr. Elniski recently received a ‘Priory Vote of Thanks’ award, signed by Her Excellency the Governor General as the Head of the Order of St. John Canada. The award was provided to Doug for his support of St. John Ambulance and of the volunteers throughout Alberta. This award recognizes Doug’s considerable service to Albertans both in government and in the field of health and safety.
Mr. Elniski is believed to be the tallest MLA in the Alberta Legislature. Mr. Elniski and his wife, Barbara, have lived in Edmonton-Calder for many years. Doug is able to trace his roots in Calder back to high school.
